Teaching the Bible Stories in Order in Sunday School

The 98 stories above make a two-year cycle: a year of Old Testament stories in order (49 lessons, Creation to the return from exile), then a year of New Testament stories in order (49 lessons, Bethlehem to Revelation). Kids repeat the cycle about three times between kindergarten and fifth grade, hearing each story again at a deeper level. Why chronological, story-based teaching works →

What's in every lesson

Christmas and Easter

The New Testament year includes the Christmas story (Angels Foretell the Birth of Jesus through Wise Men Worship Jesus) and the Easter story (Entry into Jerusalem through Jesus is Alive!). You can line the year up so those lessons land on the holidays, or teach them when the holiday comes and pick the sequence back up the next week. Ministry Edition lays out your whole calendar either way and emails each teacher their lesson the week before.

Bible Stories in Order: Common Questions

There's no official count; it depends on how you divide them. This list tells the Bible's whole story in 98 lessons, from Creation in Genesis to John's vision in Revelation, with some related events (like the ten plagues) taught together in one lesson.

Creation (Genesis 1): God made the heavens and the earth in six days and rested on the seventh. Next comes Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2–3).

Yes, in the order the events happened, which isn't always the order of the books. The Psalms sit with David's life, for example, and Jonah sits among the kings of Israel, in the time he lived.

In the order of the books, Hosea, the first of the minor prophets. In story order, Daniel is followed by Esther and the return to rebuild Jerusalem (Ezra and Nehemiah), the last events of the Old Testament story.

About two years of weekly lessons: one year through the Old Testament and one through the New. Repeating the cycle means kids hear each story about three times by the end of fifth grade.

Kindergarten through fifth grade. Activities are labeled for all ages, early elementary, or late elementary so every teacher can find the right fit for their class.

Yes. All 98 lessons, activities, videos, and coloring sheets are free to browse and teach, with no account required. Ministry Edition is an optional paid upgrade that adds scheduling and team tools for churches.
